ISVWorld tracks 7,105 active software and SaaS companies across 50 countries in Africa, as of 20 October 2026. South Africa leads with 2,550 companies, or 35.9% of the regional total, ahead of Nigeria (1,345) and Egypt (724).

South Africa (2,550), Nigeria (1,345) and Egypt (724) are the three largest software vendor populations in Africa. ISVWorld ranks all 50 countries in the region by company count, including the smaller markets that general company databases rarely separate out.

Developer and IT Infrastructure is the largest with 2,487 companies, followed by Fintech, Banking and Payments (1,546) and Retail and Commerce (980). These come from ISVWorld's own software taxonomy - built to describe what a product does, rather than borrowed from general industry codes.

ISVWorld maintains a classified database of 7,105 software and SaaS vendors in Africa, searchable by country, software category, vertical served, technology and ecosystem. It covers vendors whether or not they appear in review directories or have raised funding.

Most software vendors are not classified as software companies. A vertical SaaS vendor carries the industry code of the market it sells into — a clinical software vendor is coded as a hospital — and the minority coded “Software Publisher” carry a label that says nothing about the product.
