Frequently asked questions

How many software and SaaS companies are there worldwide?

ISVWorld tracks 402,980 active software and SaaS companies across 225 countries worldwide, as of 16 October 2026. United States leads with 138,958 companies, or 34.5% of the global total, ahead of United Kingdom (28,445) and India (21,548).

Which countries have the most software vendors globally?

United States (138,958), United Kingdom (28,445) and India (21,548) are the three largest software vendor populations globally. ISVWorld ranks countries by company count, including the smaller markets that general company databases rarely separate out.

What are the largest software categories globally?

Developer and IT Infrastructure is the largest with 147,111 companies, followed by Business Intelligence and Analytics (48,117) and Retail and Commerce (38,006). These come from ISVWorld's own software taxonomy - built to describe what a product does, rather than borrowed from general industry codes.

Where can I find a global list of software vendors?

ISVWorld maintains a classified global database of 402,980 software and SaaS vendors, searchable by country, software category, vertical served, technology and ecosystem. It covers vendors whether or not they appear in review directories or have raised funding.

How does ISVWorld identify software vendors that general databases miss?

Most software vendors are not classified as software companies. A vertical SaaS vendor carries the industry code of the market it sells into — a clinical software vendor is coded as a hospital — and the minority coded “Software Publisher” carry a label that says nothing about the product. ISVWorld does that classification work in-house, which is why the global count differs from what an industry-code filter returns. Software firmographics
