The Lou Gehrig Society Announces 2011 Columbia University Scholar Athletes

Both awardees are outstanding young adults who exemplify the legacy of former Columbia University athlete Lou Gehrig and both represent his values and commitment to excellence.In order to be considered for this award each candidate was required to answer eight essay questions, possess a minimum 3.5 GPA and be enrolled in a Pre-Medicine or Biological Science Program.This annual award has been established to honor the legacy of baseball great Lou Gehrig and will be presented during The Society’s private Triple Crown Gala Event on December 1st in New York.The 2011 Lou Gehrig Scholar Athletes for 2011 are Columbia University senior Jesse Qualliotine and Barnard College sophomore Blair Bloomquist.Both awardees are outstanding young adults who exemplify the legacy of former Columbia University athlete Lou Gehrig and both represent his values and commitment to excellence.About the award: The Lou Gehrig Scholar-Athlete Award Committee conducted a rigorous evaluation of all candidates.In order to be considered for this award each candidate was required to answer eight essay questions, possess a minimum 3.5 GPA and be enrolled in a Pre-Medicine or Biological Science Program.
