NCSU Students Perform a Case Study on MHAworks Renovation of SEEDS Community Center

Durham, NC, June 01, 2013 --( MHAworks’ President Michael Hining and Project Manager Jared Martinson took four students in the masters program under their proverbial wing and involved them in MHAworks’ renovation to SEEDS, a local community center and garden.Founded in 1988, MHAworks is a commercial architectural firm serving clients from offices in Greenville and Durham, North Carolina.North Carolina State University, which provides the largest architectural bachelor’s and master’s program in the Triangle, requires a certain amount of a student’s hours to be filled with practical experience, through a number of electives and classes.MHAworks’ President Michael Hining and Project Manager Jared Martinson took four students in the masters program under their proverbial wing and involved them in MHAworks’ renovation to SEEDS, a local community center and garden.This was a unique opportunity for the students to gain real-world knowledge, ranging from the preliminary design to the aggregation of construction documents to the construction administration phase.At the end of the semester, NCSU Student Emily Faber reflected, “This project has given us insight into the professional practice of architecture by depicting a real world client-architect relationship as well as the interaction between the architect and the various project constituents.Much like this academic program, MHAworks and SEEDS are focused on building for future generations.”MHAworks is involved in several ventures that aim to enhance education possibilities for youth and provide avenues for them to become further integrated in the AEC (architecture/engineering/construction) business.
