White House Selects Latino Scholarship Directory as Hispanic Education Bright Spot

The White House honored the scholarship directory as a Hispanic Education Bright Spot in three key areas, including access and completion of college and encouraging Latino students to pursue careers in STEM.Carlsbad, CA, October 07, 2015 --( The selection of the scholarship directory was announced on Sept. 15, 2015 in Washington, DC and is included in a national online catalog with 230 other programs investing in education for Hispanics."Today, when student loan debt in the U.S. is over $1 trillion and when more than three million Latinos are attending college, it is critical to promote a scholarship directory that gives Latino students access to all the resources available to get an education without mortgaging their future," said Andres Tobar, co-publisher of the scholarship directory.Today, Tobar and Whisler continue to work together under the auspices of Latino Literacy Now, a 501c3 organization chaired by actor and director Edward James Olmos.It has been distributed in hard copies, CDs and DVDs to national Latino organizations, including National Council of La Raza (NCLR), League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and the National Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP).The scholarship directory was initially published by NAHP when Andres Tobar was its executive director and Kirk Whisler was the directory’s publisher.
