Selecta Biosciences, Inc., a Watertown, MA-based clinical stage biotechnology company developing a novel class of targeted antigen-specific immune therapies, raised more than $20m in equity funding.Led by Werner Cautreels, PhD, President and CEO, Selecta develops novel drugs that use immune modulating nanomedicines to generate targeted antigen-specific immune responses to prevent and treat disease.Leveraging its proprietary Synthetic Vaccine Particle (SVP) platform, the company focuses on three key near-term applications: – inhibition of immunogenicity for biologic therapies, – treatment of allergies, and – treatment of autoimmune diseases.Seelcta intends to use the funds to advance its immune tolerance pipeline, including the lead program SEL-212, a non-immunogenic treatment for refractory and tophaceous gout.The company has also announced an extention of its collaboration with JDRF, and added Sanofi as a partner in support of their program to develop a Synthetic Vaccine Particle (SVP) immunotherapy with the long-term goal to treat and potentially prevent the underlying cause of type 1 diabetes.
