Amazon’s Ring To Give Users More Control Over Data It Shares With Facebook

A couple of weeks ago, a report by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) found that Amazon’s Ring for Android was plagued by third-party trackers. The EEF report found that third party firms had access to names, private IP addresses, mobile network carriers, persistent identifiers, and sensor data. In a statement to CBS News, a Ring spokesperson said that users will be able to opt-out of sharing data with such third party firms "where applicable". Ring has said that the use of data by third-party firms was contractually limited, stating, that it was only used for evaluating and improving their own services and not for any other purpose. Being cryptic about their use of personal data is what put Facebook and other tech giants under fire after the Cambridge Analytica Scandal in 2018.
