Chicago test-prep software firm lands funding
Summary
BenchPrep last raised money in 2012, when it was focused more on consumer test prep, pulling in $6 million from New Enterprise Associates and Revolution Ventures. Chicago-based BenchPrep got its start as Watermelon Express, which won the New Venture Challenge business-plan competition at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business in 2010. It later received a seed investment from Lightbank, a venture fund started by Groupon co-founders Brad Keywell and Eric Lefkofsky. Customers include college-prep test company ACT, the Association of American Medical Colleges, National Conference of Bar Examiners, Association of Supply Chain Management and American Institute of Architects. Partners such as CompTIA, a technology-certification company and trade group based in Downers Grove, and Silicon Valley giant Hewlett Packard Enterprise, use BenchPrep for continuing education.
