Finless Foods Bringing Plant-Based Tuna To The Masses, Ramping Up Cell-Cultured Plans with $34 Million In Series B Funding
Summary
There are options like plant-based bluefin tuna from California’s Finless Foods, which doesn’t come with a side dish of putting pressure on the ocean and global fisheries. Additional investors in Finless Foods include Japanese seafood company Dainichi Corp., At One Ventures, Olive Tree Capital, Justin Kan, Humboldt, Gaingels, Draper Associates, Sustainable Ocean Alliance and SOSV. Finless plans to launch plant-based tuna nationally in the United States this year, says Michael Selden, CEO and cofounder with Brian Wyrwas. Meanwhile, plant-based Finless tuna is being produced near the company’s Emeryville headquarters, “reducing transport and climate miles as well as supporting local jobs,” Selden says. Tom Chi, managing partner At One Ventures, said in a statement: “As Finless launches its first products, we are proud of their substantial technical and business progress, and look forward to a world where tuna populations can recover worldwide.”
