US Army to test the largest laser weapon the size of a shipping container

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems and a jointly built 300-kW weapon Boeing Shipping is the size of a container and is attached to the back of a heavy truck. “The high-powered, compact laser weapon subsystem prototype that GA-EMS distributes under this agreement will produce the most lethal output in the field so far,” said Scott Forney, president of GA-EMS. “This technology represents a great potential for air and missile defense, which is necessary to support the Army’s modernization efforts and defeat the next generation of threats on a multi-domain battlefield.” The aerospace company provides Boeing’s weapons beam director and accurate acquisition, tracking and pointing software. “We are excited to take the next step in delivering this critical capability to the military,” said Cindy Grunsfelder, Boeing’s vice president and general manager of missile and weapons systems. “Our joint venture leverages proven, deployed technologies to deliver an industry-leading solution in an accelerated timeline.”
