The inside story of enterprise search supporting Covid-19 information requirements in a multi-national company | Intranet Focus | Intranet strategy & management

General News

Summary

Over the last few years Paul Cleverley and Simon Burnett (Robert Gordon University) have set a very standard for enterprise search research. Last week Paul and Simon, together with Fionnuala Cousins, published a paper that makes a significant contribution to understanding search processes inside the enterprise. The search index contained several hundred million items including Intranet web pages, office documents and discussion threads. Figure 8 in the paper shows that explicit COVID-19 search queries prior to 16 March were almost exclusively single word (dotted lines). As a result, there are a number of open issues just waiting for the research community to realise the importance of undertaking similar projects in other organisations.
