Software maker Relativity does a rare acquisition

Acquisitions

Summary

Founded in 2006 as kCura, Relativity has grown to more than 1,200 employees, including nearly 900 in Chicago. Ever since the company received a $125 million investment from Iconiq Capital in 2015, it’s been seen as a potential IPO or acquisition candidate. VerQu is the largest acquisition so far for Relativity, which has largely grown organically. VerQu’s product is tailored to cloud-based chat and collaboration software, which has soared because of the COVID-19 pandemic. “They give us this ability to treat collaboration data like conversations,” says Mike Gamson, who took over as Relativity CEO about 18 months ago.
