Summary
Serverless is probably one of the most used programming paradigms for cloud applications due to it being very easy to implement and the cost of it but it also takes away a lot of control for a developer. With the actormodel a developer on the other hand is much more in control which also resorts in more development effort. An early design choice of one of the two can therefore result being locked in a totally different cost model. This thesis has investigated the general differences in implementation, maintenance, operation cost of both programming paradigms and the migration cost of migrating from one programming paradigm to another. The results indicate that the actor-model end up being more expensive to run, develop and maintain compared to a serverless application but depending on the requirements it might be worthy to consider implementing an application in the actor-model.
