loose connection - RC Groups

my realflight transmitter keeps losing connection i think because of a crimped wire in the cord. i can wiggle cord and can hear it connecting back and forth.im pretty good at soldering so im sure i can fix it. ive looked in the back and its only 4 wires soldered on a board. my only concern is the black oblong shaped thing thats inline on the cord. i would have to cut this out to get enough slack to rewire cord back in.any tips appreciated if somebody has already done this.
