Covering advice - RC Groups

I have decided to have the elevator red on the bottom and white on the top. I used a heat gun to pull down around the curved corners. This turned out not too bad for a first attempt but hopefully will improve with practice. One thing I can’t figure out is how do you get an even colour change. I tried cutting the covering with a scalpel and with scissors.
