Where are Iowa's digital driver's licenses?

The Iowa Department of Transportation first introduced the idea of a mobile drivers license in 2014 during annual budget hearings. The licenses would be available through a smartphone app, be able to be updated remotely and offer an alternative to the physical cards Iowans carry now. Trombino said about 100 agency employees, including himself, have been testing the mobile drivers license apps to see how they work in the real world. Part of the DOTs testing included trying a scanning app that could be used to verify a digital ID without users having to hand over their devices. Heres how that app would work, according to a video the company provided to the Register last year: The app-based licenses would look like traditional Iowa IDs, but the photo on each would move, offering a form of digital encryption.
