Red Hat Buys API Management Company 3scale
Summary
They created a joint solution that combined 3scale’s API management with technologies from Red Hat’s existing product portfolio. Red Hat’s most recent acquisition prior to 3scale was its purchase in October 2015 of Ansible, an IT automation startup. During Red Hat’s fiscal Q1 2017 earnings call yesterday, CEO Jim Whitehurst said the company’s platform-as-a-service (PaaS) open source community—OpenShift Commons—now counts more than 200 organizations. In addition, Red Hat recently previewed the next generation of its OpenShift Online, which has had over three million applications deployed to it. It “has now been updated to become the industry’s first multi-tenant, Docker container and Kubernetes-powered public cloud platform,” said Whitehurst on the earnings call, according to a Seeking Alpha transcript.
