Java finally goes all in on open source with the Jakarta EE 8 release

Summary

Fujitsu, IBM, Oracle, Payara, Red Hat, Tomitribe, and other members of what was once the Java community have been working on Jakarta EE. Its been fully tested under the open-source licensed Jakarta EE 8 TCKs for the Full Platform and Web Profiles. IBM has also announced that Open Liberty, its "Java" server runtime, has been fully certified as a compatible implementation of the Jakarta EE 8 profiles. "Its difficult to overstate the significance of this release," said Mike Milinkovich, the Eclipse Foundations executive director.
