Kochi: As summer heat peaks, techies set to launch birdbath challenge

This story is from April 3, 2019 KOCHI: As the rising mercury levels make summer a tough time for birds, techies in the city are coming up a with a campaign to provide them some respite. Progressive Techies (PT), a community of IT employees based at Infopark, will launch ‘ Birdbath Challenge ’, to make this summer a better one for the birds.The challenge urges people to place bowls and vessels filled with water (called birdbaths) outside their homes and workplaces as a refreshing station for birds. The campaign will be officially launched at Infopark on Wednesday evening.PT president Aneesh Panthalani said that the aim is to ensure easy availability of fresh water sources for birds in the city and help them survive a torrid summer. As it will be difficult for birds to find dependable sources of clean water for drinking and bathing, setting up a birdbath will be the best option. So, we will ask participants to place their birdbaths in the shade, near trees or shrubs if possible, as birds will find it more comfortable and safe.
