Nicknamed the “Stevies” for the Greek word for “crowned,” the awards were presented to winners Friday night during a dinner event attended by 500+ people at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. Born a curse in her village because she was a girl, today, Dr. Tae Yun Kim is called the “Hope of Korea.” Surviving the Korean War in 1950, she eventually became one of the highest ranked martial artists in the world and coached the first U.S. women’s Taekwondo team at the 1978 Pre-World Games in Seoul, Korea.
