Cyber-Defence: Moat around the digital fortress
Summary
I was especially pleased when Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed that we should start hosting annuals hackathons for Indian and Estonian young people. In cyberspace, anything can become a target — traffic lights, banks, power plants, hospitals — and cause terrible economic damage and threatening lives. We are now on the cusp of rolling out 5G, which can help push our societies ahead at an unimaginable speed, but can also create a years-long relationship and potential dependency on service providers. This was because there was a clear division of responsibilities between different government agencies, a strong publicprivate partnership, and a mindset focused on prevention and international cooperation. Recently, Estonia joined the UN Security Council (UNSC) as an elected member for 2020-21, where we hope to raise awareness on existing international norms.
