City of Long Beach approves $30 million in technology purchases

A technology package purchase worth nearly $30 million was approved Tuesday night by the Long Beach City Council in an 8-0 vote. Data center systems, fiber optic networks, telecommunication equipment and individual user devices all were part of contracts with three different suppliers. This work will connect and activate the new Civic Center now under construction, including the new City Hall and Main Library. “It also starts the expanded fiber optic the council asked for.” Most of the transactions are considered leases, allowing for upgrades when necessary. The city also is installing a multi-million-dollar human resources and payroll software system citywide.
