Wonderful stuff, except festivals can quickly get pricey, and that’s without factoring in the overpriced pints and bankrupting burgers. Tickets for the big hitters – Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds, Download and so on – are well in the three figures for a weekend, and not so much cheaper for a day pass. Add into that the cost of getting there, camping gear and – if you’re a posho Londoner who can’t survive three days of mud – showers and the like, and you’re in for a world of regret the month after when the rent is due. Just be sure to take enough cash in; bafflingly, many festival bars don’t take cards and the on site ATMs are all but guaranteed to charge. The list is in chronological order, rather than by preference, and, where the festival lasts for a full weekend, prices are quoted for day tickets only.
