▤ Summary

I have spoken with several high school students who are interested in the sciences and their idea of laboratory medicine is based on the forensic labs shown on television and in the movies. The patient that was close to losing their toes because of uncontrolled diabetes that managed to reduce their glucose levels and eventually their medicine because of the advent of HbA1c testing. Congestive heart failure that was brought under control by doing BNP testing in a physician office so medication changes could be made on site saving hospitalization and eventual mortality. I will admit that I am old school and I was raised with old time values of hard work, integrity, honesty, and a commitment to making life better for others. With the expansion of molecular diagnostics, gene sequencing, and genetic analysis testing, we can continue to benefit our patients with our knowledge and our caring attitudes.
