Quality Transformation: George Clinton, an American Hero
Summary
George was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 and, with his band, Parliament-Funkadelic was given a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Recording Academy earlier this year. I remember loud music, the most diverse and friendly group of people I had ever been part of, and an unfamiliar, herbal aroma wafting through the air. Although I didn’t know who the Red Hot Chili Peppers were in those days, it was nice to hear these polite young men calling their parents to check in with them. In retrospect, I missed the more important observation: Trey, Patavian, George and the band were simply in love with the entire audience and, perhaps, the whole of humankind. I believe George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic’s message is to celebrate, embrace our oneness, and challenge those practices and perspectives that are no longer useful in our developing and evolving world.
