▤ Summary

Any patients who presented with a cough automatically had to wear a mask until we determined if they truly had influenza. We tried to move them through as fast as possible to minimize their exposure to anything contagious that might be circulating in the waiting room. We sanitized the Cootie Room between patients and kept the door shut to cut down on exposure to any aerosols that were produced by coughing and sneezing. Most of the time, if the person had true influenza, he or she was too sick to care what room we put them into. If it means that you need a designated “Cootie Room”, then do so with good humor and empathy for those patients who are afflicted.
