Used-car purchases in Chile: Financing overtakes cash payment

Kavak's Chile report shows financed purchases of used vehicles reached 50% in the first half of 2026, overtaking cash payments for the first time. Younger buyers, especially those aged 18 to 23, use credit at much higher rates than older segments. The report also highlights the most popular used models, trade-in behavior, manual transmission demand, and color preferences. Kavak says buyers now prioritize fuel efficiency, tech features, financing options, and resale value more than brand origin. The company also notes that used-car sales remain far less bancarized than new-car sales in Chile.
