▤ Summary

In 1925, we experienced the “Tri-State Tornado” which was one mile wide and on the ground through Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana leaving destruction in its wake. Our waiting room had large windows open to the west which made it a deadly location during a storm. When it was determined that we were in the path of either a severe storm or tornado, we started moving patients to the exam rooms without windows. I always had to check for downed power lines outside due to high winds even if the office was spared any damage. While a direct hit by a tornado would have obliterated our office as well as much of the town, we took precautions and acted according to our protocol so that we could minimize injuries and loss of life.
