Modelplane: Open-source control plane for AI inference

Upbound has released Modelplane, an open-source control plane for AI inference that runs in a user’s own environment. The software coordinates model placement, replica scaling, infrastructure provisioning, weight distribution, and traffic routing across cloud, neocloud, and on-premise GPU fleets. It targets platform teams, regulated enterprises, and AI-native companies that want to manage open-weight model inference on hardware they control. The first public version ships under the Apache 2.0 license and is available on GitHub. The product creates a single OpenAI-compatible endpoint while supporting policy controls for cost, compliance, and sovereignty.
