Panama has started installing new payment and access technology for the Metro and Metrobús system. SONDA has begun the field rollout with the first validators at Villa Zaita, replacing current equipment across buses, metro stations, and paid zones. The migration will progress gradually across the city and is expected to finish in early August. The new centralized platform will support open payments with debit, credit, prepaid cards, and digital wallets while preserving the existing transit card.
