Clyde Space, a subsidiary of ÅAC Microtec, won a contract to build and operate two AIS cubesats for Orbcomm. The satellites will carry multiple AIS receivers and antennas to improve vessel detection and global coverage. The deal also advances ÅAC Microtec’s strategy to expand from building spacecraft into operating them as a service. Orbcomm expects the new satellites to strengthen its AIS offering for government and commercial customers over the long term.
