The Brazilian Central Bank removed the daily R$500 limit for Pix by proximity transactions, and the new rule takes effect on October 1, 2026. Users will be able to request higher or lower payment limits for this payment mode. Pix by proximity works by tapping a phone or smartwatch near a merchant terminal, and it currently runs on Android wallets such as Google Pay and Samsung Wallet. iPhones remain excluded because Apple does not yet allow digital wallets to act as payment initiation providers under the Central Bank’s technical requirements. Adoption remains limited compared with QR Code Pix, which still processes far more transactions.
