Unreal Engine 6 comes to Early Access at the end of 2027

Epic has outlined the roadmap for Unreal Engine 6 and plans to open early access at the end of 2027. The company wants to combine UE5’s AAA capabilities with the Fortnite and UEFN pipeline so creators can build once and run games across multiple ecosystems. Epic is also pushing Verse, portable open standards, and new pipeline tools, including an MCP server in UE 5.8 that connects AI models like Claude or Gemini directly into Unreal workflows. Unreal Engine 5.8 is available now and adds performance improvements, enhanced Lumen support, production-ready features, and an experimental mesh terrain system. Epic says UE 5.8 will be the last planned major UE5 release.
