WhatsApp is testing a new way to display Status updates for users in Chile and a small group of other markets. The test moves Status to the top of the Chats tab to make it easier to find and increase visibility before updates expire after 24 hours. WhatsApp says the change responds to user feedback that people often miss contacts’ updates. The company will evaluate whether the new placement improves engagement, and users can still collapse the section or hide updates from any contact. The trial does not change the privacy of personal messages, Status, or calls.
