This article introduces Zinnia, a kernel project written almost entirely in Rust. The kernel aims to avoid unsafe code where possible and implements a broad set of POSIX APIs along with Linux and BSD extensions such as epoll and timerfd. It can boot on UEFI-based systems through the Limine bootloader and already runs on many real x86_64 machines. The project also supports modern desktop sessions through Wayland and X11, with more architecture support planned later.
