Colt and Ciena set a record for quantum-safe transmission across the Atlantic

Colt Technology Services and Ciena completed one of the fastest quantum-safe data transmissions ever recorded, linking New York and London across 6,900 kilometers. The trial showed 800GbE encrypted transport over terrestrial and subsea infrastructure using Ciena’s WaveLogic 6 Extreme and post-quantum cryptography standards. The companies positioned the result as proof that operators can secure high-capacity links against future quantum threats while supporting AI-driven traffic growth. Colt also said it can now offer multiple quantum-safe service models, including PQC, QKD, SKI, and hybrid approaches for sensitive enterprise and government customers.
