Imec extends UWB ranging with first IEEE 802.15.4ab narrowband receiver

Imec has developed a narrowband receiver chip for the upcoming IEEE 802.15.4ab UWB standard. The design extends ranging distance up to four times in dense wireless environments while keeping power consumption below 6mW. Imec also demonstrated a full 802.15.4ab-compliant transceiver architecture that it says improves ranging performance by up to 32x. The company is targeting applications in robotics, AR glasses, wearables, automotive, and other low-power wireless systems, and it is working with industry partners to move the IP into commercial platforms.
