Sweden relies on interoperable communication with the Matrix protocol

Sweden is expanding its digital communications infrastructure around the open Matrix standard. Two agencies, Försäkringskassan and Trafikverket, have connected their separate messaging systems so employees can communicate directly across platforms. The pilot uses different Matrix-based and Matrix-compatible tools, including SAFOS Chatt, Rocket.Chat, and Element’s ecosystem, and the program aims to bring more agencies and vendors into the federation over time. eSam plans to extend the pilot after summer 2026 and use it to test additional use cases and prepare a broader rollout.
