Origin Agritech announced that its researchers co-authored a Plant Biotechnology Journal study showing a gene-editing approach that can make corn flower earlier without reducing yield. The work targets the ZmRap2.7 gene’s regulatory switches rather than disabling the gene, which lets the plant keep yield-related functions intact. Field trials showed edited lines flowering several days earlier while producing yields equivalent to standard varieties. Origin says it has already incorporated the approach into its breeding pipeline and is advancing more than 10 improved corn lines for future commercial hybrids.
