Microsoft wants to put AI agents on a short leash

Microsoft unveiled a new containment framework for autonomous AI agents at Build 2026. The company introduced Microsoft Execution Container (MXC) to sandbox agentic workloads and control access to files, networks, credentials, and other resources at runtime. It also expanded MDASH, its multi-agent vulnerability research system, and tied it more closely to Microsoft Defender. Microsoft additionally released open-source governance tools, ASSERT and ACS, to help organizations evaluate and enforce agent behavior across environments.
