SC issues revised guidelines on Recognized Markets for Digital Asset Exchange
Summary
The Securities Commission Malaysia published enhanced Guidelines on Recognized Markets for Digital Asset Exchanges to strengthen investor protection, governance, and operational resilience for regulated DAX operators. The revisions aim to speed product approvals while raising requirements for client asset safeguards, financial stability, shareholding and management proficiency. The SC will include DAX operators in the Financial Markets Ombudsman Service in 2026, has taken action against unregistered DAXs, and worked with platforms like Google to curb promotions by unregistered operators. The amendments take effect on May 20, 2026, and align with Malaysia’s Capital Market Masterplan 2026–2030 to broaden regulated access to digital assets including ETFs and broking clarifications.
