Irish Manufacturing Research announces the €6.9 million REWIRE project to advance smart remanufacturing and circular manufacturing across Europe
Summary
Irish Manufacturing Research (IMR) announced the €6.9 million REWIRE project to scale high-quality remanufacturing across Europe using robotics, AI, digital twins and traceability tools. The Horizon Europe-funded consortium brings together research, academic and industrial partners from eight countries to address traceability, fragmented digital systems, adaptable robotics, decision-support and skills gaps in heavy machinery, automotive and electronics sectors. REWIRE will develop modular robotics and AI toolboxes, adaptive AI planners for disassembly and inspection, digital product passport deployment, upskilling toolkits and fast-track compliance modules, with work starting in May 2026. The project aims to double remanufactured component volumes in targeted sectors, improve resource efficiency, strengthen circular value chains and contribute to skills and standards development across Europe.
