Meta Challenges Ofcom Over Online Safety Act

Meta has launched a High Court judicial review of Ofcom’s fees and potential fines under the Online Safety Act, calling the regulator’s approach disproportionate. Ofcom funds enforcement by charging regulated companies a share of qualifying worldwide revenue and can fine up to 10% of that revenue or £18m, whichever is higher. Meta argues fees and fines should be calculated only on revenue from the specific services subject to regulation and only UK-derived income.
