Anthropic secures $1.8bn cloud deal with Akamai for AI expansion

General News

Summary

Anthropic agreed a seven-year cloud services contract with Akamai valued at $1.8bn to secure additional computing capacity for its Claude AI platforms. Akamai called the deal its largest-ever cloud contract as Anthropic scales rapidly and also taps Google and SpaceX infrastructure, including access to SpaceX's Colossus 1 data centre. The increased capacity responds to sharp rises in revenue, system usage, and higher usage limits for Claude Code and Claude Opus. Anthropic also recently partnered with Hellman & Friedman, Goldman Sachs, and Blackstone to create an enterprise AI services company to help customers implement Claude.
