AI-RAN: Bringing software-speed innovation into the radio network

New Products

Summary

Nokia presents AI-RAN, a software-led architecture that injects learned intelligence into the Radio Access Network by decoupling algorithms from hardware through a hardware abstraction layer. The platform uses a programmable, GPU-accelerated substrate (ARC-Pro) in partnership with NVIDIA to run AI models and real-time radio functions side-by-side while preserving telecom-grade determinism, governance, and observability. Early field trials report measurable gains—up to 25% user-throughput improvements and double-digit gains in MIMO pairing and cell selection—and Nokia supports both an open-source reference Layer-1 and a carrier-grade commercial stack. Nokia launched AI-RAN in October 2025, is moving into commercial trials in 2026, and targets a commercial release in 2027.
