Android: More Security Against Scams and Theft
Summary
Google announced a package of Android security and privacy features planned for 2026, focusing on fraud prevention, real-time threat detection, and stronger theft protections. Android will verify incoming bank calls in cooperation with banks (starting with Revolut and Nubank) and use on-device AI for Live Threat Detection to spot malicious app behavior. Android 17 adds dynamic monitoring for apps hiding icons or abusing accessibility services, tighter biometric locks for Find Hub lost-device mode, Chrome APK malware scans, and a visible IMEI option to aid recovery. The update also brings finer-grained location and contact permissions, OS verification on Pixel devices, SMS one-time code protection, optional 2G disabling, and new cryptography for future quantum threats.
