Fujitsu launches AI tool to modernise legacy COBOL

▤ Summary

Fujitsu launched Fujitsu Application Transform, a generative AI SaaS that analyses source code and automatically generates design documents for legacy systems including COBOL. The service runs on Fujitsu's Kozuchi platform and uses a Knowledge Graph-Enhanced RAG approach to ground outputs in analysed code relationships. In internal trials Fujitsu reported a 97% reduction in time to produce design documents and large gains in comprehensiveness and readability versus conventional methods. The tool is already in use by SMBC Nikko Securities and will be offered in Japan to help organisations modernise ageing core applications and reduce reliance on scarce legacy expertise.
