Navy selects Leidos, Defense Unicorns to test software prototypes for ships

The Navy selected Leidos and software firm Defense Unicorns under an other transaction agreement to test a software-only, container-native prototype to update and host shipboard applications. The effort is the first award under a new commercial solutions opening with the Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic Rapid Capabilities Cell. The platform aims to standardize enterprise-wide hosting, enable remote upload/patch/distribution over limited links, improve cyber resiliency with a zero-trust architecture, and reduce total cost of ownership. The prototype, based on work in constrained environments like airports, will undergo a two-month lab test in San Diego with the goal of a shipboard trial and potential production contract.
