You can now change your Gmail username (the part before @gmail.com) without losing any photos, messages, or other account data. When you switch, your old address becomes an alternate and messages to both the old and new addresses arrive in the same account, and you can choose to send from the old address. To change it, open Personal info in your Google Account and select Change Google Account email, with availability shown as you type. Google limits you to one change per year and allows up to three changes total (four addresses tied to the same account).
