Planet Smart raises $1M to tackle plastic waste in nappies and pads

Planet Smart has raised $1 million in pre-seed funding to launch PlanetSorb, a biodegradable superabsorbent polymer aimed at replacing fossil-based plastics in nappies, sanitary products, and other absorbent-use applications. The company says the material biodegrades within six months, avoids microplastics, and absorbs more liquid than conventional SAPs at a comparable cost. Planet Smart has already signed letters of intent with hygiene manufacturers and received purchase orders from European brands. The new capital will support pilot trials and scaling from lab operations, while the company also plans future licensing partnerships and additional fundraising.
